Professionally I am a clinical speech pathologist with many years of experience working with all types of communication disorders. Personally I am passionate about combining my knowledge and expertise with my love of helping people.

I grew up in Texas and am proud to be part of a large extended family. I have strong values regarding the privilege of raising children and our obligation to provide them with a happy, nurturing, and safe childhood.

My interest in the field of speech pathology began when I was 11 years old. After my little cousin was diagnosed with autism, I occasionally accompanied my aunt as she took him to speech therapy. Although I was quite young, I vividly recall thinking what a miracle it would be to teach someone to speak who didn’t know how...to give someone the gift of communication. I had no idea how vast the field of communication disorders would eventually become and the wonderful professional journey awaiting me.

Through my private practice, Julia Hobbs Speech Pathology, Inc., I have enjoyed working with many children and their families as well as adults with communication and voice disorders.

At the same time I have been consulting and teaching at the UCLA Dental School, St. Johns Hospital Cleft Palate Team and UCLA Craniofacial Team. I have given lectures and taught clinical courses internationally and nationally, including meetings of the American Speech and Hearing Association and our annual meetings of the California Speech and Hearing Association.

I have also been part of an international cleft palate team, training local resources for speech therapy in an underdeveloped country.

A little personal information...

I have enjoyed living in Manhattan Beach for many years and am privileged to be the mother of a wonderful daughter, Emily, who is a recent graduate of Parsons The New School of Design with a BFA in Photography.

I am grateful to Emily for many things, not the least of which has been the opportunity of putting into practice my philosophy and ideas about parenting. I truly believe being a parent is the most wonderful, daunting, challenging and rewarding role we can have in life and I love sharing my ideas and experiences with the parents of children in my practice today.
